ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior Brian Thornton scored a team-high 11 points for Xavier, but it was not enough to lift the Musketeers to a win as XU fell 61-47 to Atlantic 10 Conference opponent Saint Louis at the Savvis Center. With the loss, Xavier drops to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference action while SLU improves to 12-9 on the season and 6-3 in Conference play.

After trimming the Saint Louis lead to six points at halftime, XU was unable to carry the momentum into the second half as the Musketeers made just three field goals over the first 12:13 of the second stanza as Saint Louis pushed extended its lead to 50-32.
Xavier took a brief 5-2 lead to open the game before Saint Louis went on a 12-2 run over 5:12 to take a 14-7 lead at the 11:07 mark. The SLU run coupled with a 5:14 drought from the field for the Musketeers helped the Billikens stretch their lead to eight points.
SLU would build on the lead to take a 13-point advantage with 3:50 to go in the half before the Musketeers called a timeout at the 3:46 mark. Following the 30-second timeout, Xavier went on a 9-2 spurt over the last 3:30 to cut the Saint Louis lead to six points at 31-25 heading into the locker rooms.
