Wednesday, January 30, 2013, 9PM, Cintas Center

The Xavier Musketeers defeated the Dayton Flyers 66 to 61 tonight and extended their home-court winning streak against Dayton to 28 games.  Dayton last defeated the Musketeers in Cincinnati on January 10, 1981, 74-72 at Riverfront Coliseum, now known as US Bank Arena.

With tonight’s victory the Musketeers have compiled a record of 170-23 (.881) at Cintas Center, in their 13th season at Cintas Center.  Xavier has compiled a 89-11 (.890) record against Atlantic 10 foes at Cintas Center since it opened for play in 2000.  Since 2007 Xavier has lost to a conference opponent only once, against 51 wins (51-1, .981).  Saint Louis beat XU at Cintas Center, 73-68, on January 25, 2012.

With the score tied at six with 14:24 remaining in the first half, Xavier went on an 8-0 tear to take a 14-6 lead with 10:36 to go.  Jeff Robinson led Xavier’s scorers with four points during the run.

Trailing 19-12 at the 8:08 mark of the first half UD went on an 8-0 streak to take a quick 20-19 lead with 6:26 left before the break.  Vee Sanford paced the Flyers with six points.

Dayton was leading 38-36 with 17:21 to go in the second half when Xavier went on an 11-2 run to pull ahead 47-40 with 11:05 remaining.  Five Musketeers scored over that stretch.

Dayton’s Vee Sanford led all scorers with 16 points.  Kevin Dillard added 12 for UD, after going scoreless in the first half for the fifth time this season.  He also contributed five assists.  It was the first time this season that Dayton lost when Dillard had five or more assists, after six wins.

Dee Davis led Xavier with 14 points.  It was his first game in double figures since he scored 10 against Kent State on January 9.  Davis was named MVP in the 58th game between Dayton and Xavier with the Blackburn-McCafferty trophy on the line.  Jeff Robinson added 12 points and five rebounds and Semaj Christon contributed 13 points.  Travis Taylor led all rebounders with 11 and contributed eight points.

The Musketeers scored 35 second-chance points, a season high.  Xavier’s 20 offensive rebounds fell one short of tying its season-high of 21 at Charlotte on January 23.  Dayton’s 18 rebounds were the second fewest by a Xavier opponent this season.

The Musketeers travel to Richmond to play the Richmond Spiders on Saturday, February 2, at 6PM.  Fox Sports Ohio will broadcast the game.
