CINCINNATI - The Musketeers sealed the 66-61 victory over the Dayton Flyers late Wednesday night at Cintas Center. Dee Davis scored a team-high 14 points and dished out three assists in the thriller.

Xavier is now 12-8 for the season and 5-2 in the Atlantic 10 and now have beat Dayton 14 of the last 18 meetings. Dayton drops to 12-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Musketeers stretched their winning streak over Dayton in Cincinnati to 28 games in a row. The last time the Flyers defeated the Musketeers in Cincinnati was January 10, 1981.

With 15:17 remaining in the second half the Musketeers held a close 41-40 edge over the Flyers. The Musketeers began the half making four of their first six shots while the Flyers sank five of their six buckets.

The game remained close the entire way as the Musketeers' largest lead in the second half was only seven. For the game, there were six ties and 13 lead changes.

With 59.4 left on the clock Semaj Christon made a fade-away mid-range jumper to give XU a 62-61 lead. Christon ended with 13 points and three assists.

The Musketeers were able to grab two crucial offensive boards off missed free throws in the closing seconds to get XU back to the line. Davis made both freebies to give the Musketeers a late 64-61 edge and end the game for the Flyers.

Davis scored in double figures for the first time since December 9 when he dropped 10 on Kent State. Senior Jeff Robinson ended with 12 points and five boards, four rebounds were offensive.  Travis Taylor had a game-high 11 rebounds with eight points to his name.

The Musketeers held the Flyers to only 18 rebounds, second only to Farleigh Dickinson who only managed to grab 11 boards. XU grabbed 36 rebounds, 20 offensive rebounds and scored a season-high 35 points off those offensive boards. Xavier finished shooting 52.8 percent to the field while holding Dayton to 48 percent.

XU owned the paint as it scored 42 points in the paint to UD 26 points. This was the second most points in the paint this season for Xavier, only behind Farleigh Dickinson when it totaled 48 points.

At the break Xavier held a 31-27 lead over Dayton. Robinson had eight points from 4-of-7 shooting from the field and four rebounds in the first half. Taylor was able to muscle his way to seven rebounds, two of which were offensive boards going into intermission.

A slow start for both teams as the Musketeers led 10-6 with 11:58 remaining in the first half. Robinson had six points and two rebounds to that point, including an emphatic put back slam to bring the sold out crowd to their feet. During that span the Flyers shot 2-of-13 from the field including 0-of-4 from long range.

XU outrebounded UD 19-12 in the first half. Nine of the Musketeer rebounds were offensive which led to 17 second chance points. Dayton had only two offensive boards with two second chance points.  

Dayton used an 11-3 run to grab the 20-19 lead over Xavier with 6:26 left in the first half. This was Dayton's first lead since its 2-0 lead to open the game.   

Vee Sanford of Dayton had a team-high 16 points from 8-of-13 shooting from the field. The Musketeers held the Flyers' leading scorer, Kevin Dillard, to 12 points, all which were scored in the second half.
