XAVIER UNIVERSITY MUSKETEERS 70 (11-6, 4-0) v. LA SALLE UNIVERITY EXPLORERS 63 (12-5, 2-2)

Xavier increased its record to 11-6 and a perfect 4-0 in Atlantic 10 conference play this afternoon with its 70-63 win over the La Salle Explorers (12-5 and 2-2).
With this afternoon’s win the Musketeers now sport a 169-23 (.880) record at Cintas Center since the arena opened in 2000. Xavier now has gone 88-11 (.889) against Atlantic 10 opponents.
Semaj Christon led all scorers with 18, the fifth game in a row in which he has scored in double figures. He also assisted on five baskets. Xavier is 8-1 this season when Christon leads the team in scoring.
Brad Redford contributed 13 points with three three-pointers, his third straight game scoring 13 or more points. It’s the first time in his career that he has scored in double figures three games in a row.
Travis Taylor pulled down 12 rebounds, tying his career high. He pulled 12 against Fairleigh Dickinson (11/9/12) and Georgia (11/25/11). Taylor has corralled 10 or more rebounds in four of the last five games. Taylor also scored nine points this afternoon and blocked three shots, again tying a career high. He has blocked three twice before, against Wofford on 12/22/12 and against Monmouth on 11/11/11.
Dee Davis returned to action after his wrist injury with seven assists and one turnover. The seven assists are his most since the opener against Fairleigh Dickinson, when he tallied 15. He has 18 assists and just four turnovers in the last four games has played.
As a team Xavier blocked nine shots this afternoon, eclipsing its previous season-high of five against Kent State (12/09/12).
Tyrone Garland led La Salle in scoring with 16 points off the bench. Ramon Galloway added 15 (with six rebounds) and Steve Zack added 13 points. Jerrell Wright contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
With the score tied with 16:01 to go in the first half at 4, Las Salle went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-6 lead with 12:25 remaining. Steve Zack led the Explorers with four points during the run.
Trailing 24-16 with 6:53 to go in the first half, Xavier went on a 23-4 run to end the first half and start the second, to pull ahead of La Salle 39-28 with 16:55 to go in the game. Semaj Christon paced the Musketeers with eight points over that time period and Jeff Robinson added six.
Leading 45-39 with 9:51 to go, Xavier outscored the Explorers 9-0 over the next three minutes to extend its lead to 54-39 with 6:49 to go. Four Musketeers scored during the streak.
Xavier travels to Charlotte to play the 49ers on Wednesday, January 23, at 7:30 PM.
