CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's basketball team captured its fourth consecutive win with a 70-63 victory over the La Salle University Explorers Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. Freshman Semaj Christon had a game-high 18 points and has scored in double figures in five consecutive games.

The Musketeers remain perfect in the Atlantic 10 conference with a 4-0 record and improve its overall record to 11-6. The Explorers fall even in conference play (2-2) and are now 12-5 for the season. XU now holds a 32-7 all-time record over La Salle including wins in six of the last seven meetings.

Xavier tied its largest of the game, to that point, with 8:17 remaining in the second half after Brad Redford hit a transition three to give the Musketeers a 50-39 advantage. Redford finished with 13 points from 3-of-6 shooting from long range and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. This was Redford's third consecutive game scoring over 10 points and is averaging 15 ppg in Atlantic 10 games.

Xavier went on a 10-3 run lasting 2:42 to reach a 66-48 lead with 2:34 left in the second half. It was capped by a long alley-oop from Dee Davis to Jeff Robinson.

Davis dished out a game-high seven assists in his first game back since January 10 against Temple, and his most assists since the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson when he had 15.

Robinson tallied 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Travis Taylor tied a career-high in rebounds with 12, and blocks with three. Taylor added nine points in the Musketeer victory.

Xavier had a season-high nine blocks and scored a season-high 23 points off of 16 Explorer turnovers. The Musketeers are now 8-1 when Christon leads the team in scoring. XU shot 57.8 percent from the field and held La Salle to an even 40 percent.

The Musketeers took control to end the first half and entered the locker room holding a 35-27 lead over the Explorers. XU finished the half on a 14-2 run lasting 4:14. During the span La Salle shot 0-for-8 from the field and turned the ball over four times.

Christon led all scorers at half with 10 points, while both Redford and Robinson added eight in the half. XU shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the field and held La Salle to 47.8 percent (11-of-23).  

With 12:25 left in the first half the Explorers went on a 6-0 run to gain a 15-6 advantage over the Musketeers. La Salle was able to pressure the ball and force three turnovers and hold Xavier to 2-of-7 shooting from the field.

Xavier clawed its way back in the first half to narrow the lead to 24-21 with 5:58 left in the half. A deep three from the right wing by Redford cut the lead Redford had six points to that point. XU took its first lead of the game with 2:16 left in the first half after a Davis free throw.

Tyrone Garland scored a team-high 16 points for the Explorers.
