CINCINNATI -The Xavier men's basketball team defeated the visiting Saint Joseph's Hawks 68-55 to extend its winning streak to four games. Mark Lyons, Kenny Frease, Dezmine Wells and Jeff Robinson all scored in double figures and Tu Holloway had a season-high 12 assists to lead the Musketeers over the Hawks.

With the win, the Musketeers improve to 13-5 on the season and 4-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Hawks fall to 12-7 on the year and 2-3 in conference action. Xavier has now won the last four match-ups with Saint Joseph's.

Lyons started off the night hot going 3-for-3 in the first half, for nine points. He chipped in eight more points in the second half to go with four boards and an assist. Lyons led the game with 17 points. Frease was 5-of-9 from the floor for 13 points and hauled in seven boards and dished out two dimes. Wells and Robinson each added 12 points. Wells grabbed six rebounds, while Robinson brought in three. Robinson upped his offensive production in the last three games, scoring 37 points over that stretch. Holloway dished out a season-high 12 assists to go with his six points. As a team, Saint Joseph's had nine assists to Holloway's 12.

As a team Xavier shot 49.1 percent from the floor and held Saint Joseph's to 37.5 percent. SJU outrebounded XU 38-28, but the Musketeers dominated in the paint (44-30), points in the paint (17-10) and second-chance points (15-12).

The Hawks came out in the second half scoring four quick points to extend their lead to six, but it was all Musketeers after that. Xavier went on a 18-2 run over the next six minutes to separate themselves from Saint Joseph's with a 55-45 lead with 12:17 left in the contest.

Both teams came out shooting hot in the early minutes of the game. Heading into the first media timeout, Xavier was shooting 60 percent from the floor (6-of-10) while Saint Joseph's was 50 percent (3-of-6). The Musketeers were a perfect 2-for-2 from long range, while the Hawks were 2-of-4. Xavier went on a 13-2 run over the first five minutes of the half.

Xavier's largest lead of the first half was 10, off of a Lyons 3-pointer. Saint Joseph's would battle back, outscoring Xavier 20-9 over the last eight minutes of the half to lead 39-37 heading into intermission. The Musketeers were shooting 43.8 percent from the floor to the Hawks 46.9 percent. Both teams were 33.3 percent from 3-point range.

Despite having the Atlantic 10 leading scorer Carl Jones sidelined, Saint Joseph's had four players in double figures in scoring. Langston Galloway and Ronald Roberts each had 14 points while Halil Kanacevic had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Xavier will next travel up I-75 to take on the Dayton Flyers for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 21. The game is set to be televised on ESPN2. Stay tuned to for more information on Xavier men's basketball.
