CINCINNATI -The Xavier men's basketball team defeated Duquesne 78-50 Wednesday evening at Cintas Center on the heels of four Musketeers scoring in double figures. Freshman Dezmine Wells led the way a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Senior Tu Holloway recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 assists. Junior Jeff Robinson and senior Kenny Frease also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.

With the win the Musketeers improve to 11-5 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Dukes fall to 10-7 on the year and 1-2 in the conference. Xavier now leads the all-time series 28-17.

Wells had the crowd on its feet on several occasions during the game by connecting on six dunks and a 3-pointer for a 7-for-7 night from the floor. The Raleigh, N.C., native also recorded a career-high and game-high nine rebounds, a block and a steal. Robinson provided a spark off of the bench with a season-high 12 points and six rebounds.

Xavier shot 57.1 percent from the floor, while Duquesne was 35.2 percent for the night. The Musketeers won the battle of the boards, 40-29, points in the paint, 54-28, second-chance points, 17-9, and bench points 34-11.

The Musketeers took off on a run in the first half after the first media timeout. Robinson scored six points for Xavier on its 14-2 run who took a 24-9 lead with 7:58 left in the first half. The remainder of the half saw several spectacular dunks from Robinson as well as Wells. Holloway capped off the frame with a trey to extend the advantage to 28 as both squads headed to the locker rooms for intermission.

Early foul trouble by Frease and Andre Walker allowed Robinson and Travis Taylor to see more minutes in the first half. The duo contributed 14 points in the first half off 6-of-7 shooting.

Xavier shot 54.8 percent from the field in the first compared to Duquesne's 26.1 percent effort. The Musketeers were efficient off of turnovers, converting 13 points off of seven turnovers by the Dukes.

The Dukes' 16 points in the first half were the lowest by an opponent since Charlotte scored 13 in the 69-47 win at Cintas Center on Jan. 28, 2009.

Duquesne was led by Sean Johnson who recorded 12 points off of 5-of-13 shooting. Andre Marhold was the Dukes' top rebounder with seven boards.

The Musketeers return to Cintas Center on Saturday, Jan. 14 to square off with St. Bonaventure. The game will be televised on ESPNU and is scheduled to start at noon. Stay tuned to for more information on Xavier men's basketball.
