MCLEAN WAS ON BOARD(S) AS A SENIOR: 2010-11 All-Atlantic 10 Conference Third Team selection by the A-10 coaches...led the team in rebounding at 8.4 rpg. (third in the Atlantic 10) and led the entire Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounding at 3.6 per game...grabbed a game-high tying 12 rebounds at Saint Louis on March 5, a game-high 13 rebounds on March 2 vs. Charlotte and game-high 12 rebounds at Richmond on Jan. 29...fourth on the team in scoring at 10.6 ppg...scored in double figures in 14 of the last 20 games and 19 games overall as a senior...third in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage at 53.9 percent...recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds vs. Charlotte on March 2...contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds at Georgia on Feb. 8...had 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds at Charlotte on Feb. 2...had 14 double-doubles in his Xavier career (16 overall in college including the two he had as a Tulsa freshman)...grabbed double-figure rebound totals in 14 games as a senior and 24 times in his XU career (28 times overall including four at Tulsa)...17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds at Charlotte on Feb. 2...had 15 points in the Dayton win on Jan. 15 and 16 in the win over Temple on Jan. 22...posted 19 points and 12 rebounds on Jan. 9 at Rhode Island...scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Wofford win and 13 points and 11 rebounds at Miami...was expected to miss 3-6 weeks as a result of an injury from the Nov. 2 exhibition game against Northern Kentucky, an injury described by doctors as "a fracture of the orbital floor, which is the bone that surrounds the eye socket." Instead, McLean returned to action on Nov. 16 sporting goggles against IPFW, recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds...he then grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over Iowa on Nov. 19 and 12 rebounds in the win over Seton Hall on Nov. 21.
AS A JUNIOR (2009-10): Second on the team in rebounding as a junior at 7.5 rpg. (seventh in the Atlantic 10), including his career-high 14-rebound game in the NCAA First Round win over Minnesota...that was one of eight double-figure rebound games for McLean in his junior season...had 13-rebound games against Richmond on Feb. 28, at Florida on Feb. 13 and versus Sacred Heart on Nov. 21...had his fourth double-double of the season at Charlotte on Feb. 20 with 14 points and 11 rebounds...had a 14-point, game-high 11-rebound game at UMass on Feb. 3...had back-to-back double-doubles with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds at Wake Forest on Jan. 3 and 10 points and 10 rebounds against LSU on Dec. 29...had a 16-point, eight-rebound game against Rhode Island on Jan. 23...hit 50 of his last 73 (.685) free throw attempts to raise his free throw percentage from 55.0 percent (44-of-80) to 61.4 percent (94-of-153)...made his first XU starts in the first nine games, came off the bench for the next 10 and then returned to the starting lineup for the last 16 games...swatted a career-high tying four shots against Duquesne on Jan. 28 and had 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line against Fordham on Jan. 31 to go with seven rebounds and three steals...had a nine-rebound game against Miami on Dec. 23...scored 17 points against Baylor on Nov. 29...was on the ESPN top highlights on Nov. 27 for his fast break dunk against Creighton and again on March 13 for an impressive block against Richmond.
2008-09: Grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go with four points, two assists and two blocks against Temple in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals...grabbed six more rebounds in the NCAA First Round win over Portland State...grabbed four rebounds and slammed home three dunks for six points in the Wisconsin win...hit 16 of his last 27 shots from the field (.593) over the last nine games, including 11 dunks...has hit 60-of-104 shots from the field for 57.7 percent for the season...has averaged 4.4 ppg. and 4.4 rpg. in just 14.6 minutes a game...came up big in the win over Dayton on March 5 with 10 points, hitting all four of his shots from the field and both free throws, to go with five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in just 14 minutes of action...scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field to go with six rebounds and a career-high four blocks against Fordham...grabbed eight rebounds to go with eight points in just 13 minutes at Charlotte...came up big off the bench with six rebounds in just 10 minutes of action against Temple to go with five points...grabbed five rebounds in 14 minutes at Dayton...had his XU career-high 11-rebound game against Robert Morris...the 11 rebounds equal his collegiate career high, which he set twice in his freshman season of 2006-07 at Tulsa...scored a Xavier career-high 11 points in the Memphis win...earned the number eight "Play of the Day" on ESPN's SportsCenter with his athletic block in the Cincinnati game that thwarted a UC fast break.
IMPRESSIVE DEBUT FOR MCLEAN: Playing his first game at Xavier, posted a double-double against IPFW with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while hitting all three of his shots from the field and contributing three blocked shots...posted the first double-double by a Musketeer in a season opener or in his XU debut since Brian Thornton had 14 points and 12 rebounds against Oakland in the 2004-05 season (11-19-04).
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Traveled to Taiwan in July of 2008 on a men's basketball tour with the sports ministry Athletes in Action...McLean and his teammates represented the United States in the 29th Annual William Jones Cup International Tournament...this Olympic-level, 10-team tournament annually offers competition and ministry outreach in Asia.
2006-07 SEASON AT TULSA (AS A FRESHMAN): Played in all 31 games, starting seven times, for the Golden Hurricane...averaged 6.0 points and shot 55.8 percent (67-of-120) from the field as a freshman...was second on the team with 4.8 rebounds a game...led the team in rebounding 11 times, including each of Tulsa's two games in the Conference USA Tournament...had two "double-doubles" in scoring-rebounding, including 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds at Arkansas and 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds versus Tulane in the Conference USA Tournament...had one of his best games of the year with a career-high 16 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots against Memphis...led the team in blocked shots (1.13 per game) despite logging just 16.9 minutes per appearance...made his first collegiate start a success with 14 points, hitting 6-of-6 from the field, and seven rebounds against Eastern Michigan on December 23...helped Tulsa and head coach Doug Wojcik record a 20-11 overall record.
AT BETHEL HIGH: A three-year letterwinner and starter...averaged 14.5 points, 15.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots a game as a senior while being named to the All-Region and All-District all-star teams...led his senior team to a 27-1 record...scored 20 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the district championship game...averaged 11.5 points, 15.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks as a junior...basketball coach: Craig Brehon.
PERSONAL: Graduated from Xavier this past May with a liberal arts degree...now doing work on a sport management major....hobbies include playing a little piano...born April 18, 1988 in Brooklyn, New York...parents are Velma McNeil and the late William McLean, who passed away prior to the 2009-10 season.
