2008-09...THE FREASE IS ON: Led the team in blocked shots at 1.26 per game (10th in the Atlantic 10), including a career-high five blocks in the Pittsburgh game...grabbed 3.8 rebounds per game while playing 14.5 minutes per game...played well off the bench against Wisconsin, hitting all three of his shots from the field on his way to seven points, four rebounds and two blocks in 18 minutes...had eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks in just 17 minutes against Dayton on March 5...had his best offensive game of the season with a career-high 17 points against Charlotte on Jan. 28 on 7-of-9 shooting from the field...had arguably his best overall game of the season at Virginia with career highs of 13 points and eight rebounds...scored 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 16 minutes of action at LSU...has grabbed seven rebounds four times, including against Auburn and in the Atlantic 10 Tournament against Saint Louis...enjoyed a solid game against Butler, scoring eight points to go with five rebounds, while hitting all four of his shots from the field...had an impressive debut against IPFW with 12 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists...contributed nine points, five rebounds and two blocks in the Virginia Tech win, including the two free throws that tied the game to send it to overtime...on the defensive side, he blocked at least two shots in 15 different games, including against Wisconsin, Temple, UMass, both Saint Louis games and three blocks against Dayton on March 5...he had a career-high five blocks in the Pittsburgh game in the NCAA Tournament East Regional Semifinal. ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE ROOKIE HONORS: Named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week in late January (1-25-09), the first XU player to win that award since Stanley Burrell in the 2004-05 season...scored 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 16 minutes of action on January 24 in Xavier's 80-70 victory at LSU...in three wins (La Salle, at St. Bonaventure and at LSU), Frease averaged 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 14.0 minutes per game, while shooting 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the field. TOUGH AS NAILS IS A FAMILIAR THEME: Frease's "tough as nails" efforts comes as no surprise to those who know his background. Shortly before his Massillon Perry High School graduation this spring, Frease volunteered to lie on a bed of nails for a science experiment. Amazingly, thanks to the laws of physics the 7-0 center did not incur any bodily harm. In fact, Frease commented that he was a little nervous at first but it didn't really hurt. INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS: Played with the 12-member USA Elite National U19 Team in tournament action against seven other countries in Douai, France, this past June...the only member of the U.S. squad to earn a spot on the five-member All-Tournament Team. AT PERRY HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year starter at Perry who finished his career second in school history in scoring and first in both rebounding and blocked shots...averaged 20.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.7 blocked shots and 1.8 steals as a senior while being named First Team All-State, District 4 Player of the Year, First Team and Co-Player of the Year for the Northeast Inland District, First Team and Federal League Player of the Year and Academic All-Ohio...shot 60 percent from the field, including 66 percent inside the three-point arc...led Perry High to a 19-3 record, the Federal League Championship and a second straight district final appearance...posted a triple-double in a win over Youngstown Cardinal Mooney with 29 points, 17 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocked shots...recorded a dominating performance in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game in April in Columbus, contributing 28 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks...listed as a high honorable mention prep All-American in the 2007-08 Sporting News preseason basketball magazine and was No. 42 in the final Rivals.com rankings...basketball coach: Rob Toth.
