Bill Comar is in his seventh year as Xavier's Director of Basketball Operations.
Head coach Sean Miller said Comar is a valuable part of the staff. "Bill knows the Atlantic 10 extremely well after coaching at Dayton and being a part of our success at Xavier. If you ask our players they will tell you that the organization on a daily basis that Bill provides is invaluable to their success at Xavier as students and athletes. Bill is extremely intelligent, passionate about the game and a tireless worker. He sets our program apart in so many ways."
Comar, 36, came to Xavier after four years on Oliver Purnell's staff at the University of Dayton, including two seasons as an assistant coach (1998-99 and 2000-01) and two years as the Coordinator of Basketball Operations (1997-98 and 1999-2000). Comar was at UD beginning in November, 1997, and was involved in all aspects of the Flyer basketball program.
Prior to his stint at Dayton, Comar spent the 1996-97 school year at Miami (Ohio) where he was an Academic Coordinator in the athletic department. Prior to that, he was a member of the men's basketball staff at Miami for three years as an administrative assistant and academic advisor. During the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons he worked with Sean Miller, who was an assistant on Herb Sendek's Miami staff.
Comar, a native of Wilmette, Ill., played on the 1989 New Trier High School team that advanced to the Elite Eight in the Illinois State Tournament. Comar then attended Kenyon College (Ohio), where he played for three seasons in the basketball program (1989-92). He graduated magna cum laude from Kenyon in 1993 with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in sociology. He received his M.S. in sport studies from Miami in 1995.
Comar was born March 15, 1971 in Chicago, Ill. He lives in Hyde Park.
