KOWALEWSKI ON CANTY: "It was fun to watch Jay develop on and off the court this past year. He really matured and I think is now ready to go away from home to Xavier. Jay is a super athlete with an incredible wing span, great desire and an ability to play above the rim. I think those qualities could help him be a great rebounder and defender. He can get his hands on a lot of balls other guys can't get to. Jay is a tireless worker, the first player to arrive and the last player to leave practice. He only plays one way and that's hard all the time. When you add that to his tremendous athleticism, he has a chance to be a special player at the next level. He has always been a great slasher and scorer. He has worked on his ballhandling and passing as well as his shooting. He has taken thousands of shots and has become much better as a catch and shoot and pull up and shoot player. I know he will continue to get better as he works at all parts of his game."

Played at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, N.C., prior to transferring to Oak Ridge...First Team All-Area selection by the Greensboro News and Record as a sophomore and a junior...as a junior in the 2008-09 season he averaged 20 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 3.0 assists and 2.4 blocks per game in leading Ragsdale to an undefeated Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference record and a 26-2 overall mark his junior year...as a sophomore in the 2007-08 season he averaged 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2 blocks a game...basketball coach: Craig Shoemaker.

MACK ON CANTY: "Jay is a terrific player and an even better young man hailing from High Point, N.C., a few miles down the road from where Coach Kelsey and I worked for years. We are thrilled to have him in the Xavier family. His length and athleticism at the wing position and his ability to finish at the rim is of the highest level. He has that "inspector gadget" look around the basket as his arms seem to be everywhere. He could be a dominant rebounder and defender in our system as well."
