Xavier baseball earned the four-seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship and will face No. 5 George Washington in the first game of the tournament at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at the Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
For the second-straight day, Xavier scored a run in the ninth inning to defeat a scrappy Butler team, 4-3. Derek Hasenbeck led the Musketeers going 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and two RBIs, including the game winner.
Xavier rallied in the ninth inning to grab a 4-3 win at Butler and clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship set to be held in Charlotte May 22-25.
Xavier's Jon Richard went the distance on the mound for Xavier, but the Musketeers couldn't find their offense in a 4-0 loss at Butler on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops Xavier to 28-24 overall and 14-8 in the A-10, while Butler improves to a 25-25 mark and 12-10 in the conference.
