CINCINNATI - Five Xavier University baseball players put together stellar seasons in their respective summer leagues, with four of those players earning spots on All-Star teams.
Senior outfielder Mitch Elliott, who turned heads with a Sports Center Top 10 play during the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships, was tabbed the Futures Collegiate Baseball League's Top prospect after finishing second in the league with a .358 batting average. Elliott also ripped seven doubles and three home runs and earned a spot on the all-star team.
Junior pitcher Jacob Bodner was stellar on the mound in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League. Bodner registered a spotless 0.00 ERA with 14 saves and 35 strikeouts in 20 innings. His efforts also earned him a spot on the all-star squad.
Andre Jernigan, a red-shirt freshman infielder, and Daniel Rizzie, a sophomore catcher, joined Bodner in the Hamptons League. Jernigan was tabbed an all-star and finished the summer with a .248 average, five doubles, two triples, three home runs and four stolen bases. Rizzie led his team with a .315 batting average. He also connected on five doubles and a homer this summer.
Daniel Przeniczny was named to the all-star team in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. A junior pitcher for the Musketeers, Przeniczny hit .244 this summer with three doubles and eight stolen bases.
Xavier is in the midst of fall conditioning and will begin fall practice in a few weeks. The Musketeers enter competition in the BIG EAST this spring.
