Aug. 22, 2008

CINCINNATI - Several members of the Xavier baseball team have had a successful summer break playing in summer leagues in the area. Congratulations to Billy O’Conner, Steve Brown, Ryan Bellamy and Charlie Leesman, members of the Cincinnati Steam, the 2008 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Champions. Danny Rosenbaum was a member of the North Woods League Champion Thunder Bay Border Cats. Additionally, several Musketeers were named to All-League as well as All-Star teams.

The Cincinnati Steam was led by O’Conner, a three-year Steam starter, who earned All-GLSCL First Team honors as well as being named to the GLSCL All Star Red Team. Musketeers Joe Kohler, who played for Lake Erie, was also named a GLSCL All Star and John McCambridge, who played for Licking County, earned All-GLSCL Second Team honors.

The Steam posted a franchise best 30 wins this summer and another program-best 18-2 home record. O’Conner was second on the team in batting average (.320), tallying 32 hits and 24 RBI. Leesman, who recently signed with the Chicago White Sox, recorded a 2-1 won-loss mark and a 2.53 ERA in summer league action.

Rosenbaum tossed 49.3 innings this summer with the NWL Champion Border Cats. His 1.64 ERA was one of the best on the team and he recorded 32 strikeouts in 10 outings.
