Jordan Conley Picked Up by Florida Marlins
June 25, 2009
CINCINNATI - Senior closer and shortstop Jordan Conley has been picked up by the Florida Marlins, signing a professional contract as an undrafted free agent to play with the organization as a pitcher. The XU all-time saves leader is headed to Juniper, Fla., to join the organization's rookie team, the GCL Marlins. Conley spent the last two seasons as an integral part of the Xavier baseball team, after transferring from John A. Logan College, serving as the team's starting shortstop as well as the number one closer. With a career-high 13 saves in 2009, he set a new school record for saves in a season, breaking the record he had set the previous year (10). Conley's 23 career saves in only two season at Xavier now stands as the program record for saves in a career. The righty from Hamilton, Ohio, is the third Musketeer to sign a professional contract this year. He joins draftee LHP Danny Rosenbaum and undrafted free agent C Billy O'Conner in the MiLB. Conley will first see Rosenbaum (they will both be playing in the Gulf Coast League) on on Saturday, June 27, as the Marlins face the GCL Nationals at 12:00.
