NEWPORT NEWS, Va.-- Xavier junior Seth Willoughby was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 and earned an academic All-Conference nod while freshman Alex Westrick was named to the All-Rookie team in voting conducted by the league's coaches.
Willoughby was a light's-out closer for the Musketeers throughout the 2012 season. The XU junior right hander was 2-1 with a 1.26 ERA and 12 saves in 25 appearances. Willoughby's 12 saves put him in second place in the single-season saves mark at XU while his 28 career saves is the most ever recorded by a Musketeer.
This is Willoughby's second straight Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honor. The Columbus, Ohio, native posted a 3.7 GPA while majoring in Management Information Systems.
Westrick was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team after posting a 3-2 record and a team second-best ERA of 1.57. The Zionsville, Ind., native appeared in 17 games with three starts and pitched 46 total innings. The XU lefty led all Xavier rookie pitchers with 38 strikeouts on the season. Westrick picked up his first career victory on March 5 against Sacred Heart.
The Musketeers finished the 2012 campaign with a 28-28 mark overall including a 13-11 record in the Atlantic 10.
