Xavier Baseball's Richard Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
May 3, 2013
CINCINNATI - Xavier starting pitcher Jon Richard was named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 First Team. Richard holds a 3.51 GPA and is majoring in middle childhood education.
The native of Versailles, Ohio, is 7-2 on the season and has won four-consecutive starts. Richard holds a career-low 2.64 ERA in 75.0 innings pitched with 51 strikeouts and just 18 walks.
It has been a rewarding week for Richard, who was also named the Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week following a three-hit complete-game shutout last Friday against Rhode Island. Richard went the full nine innings and allowed only five Rams to reach base and none to advance beyond second base.
The senior southpaw has steadily climbed in Xavier's record books this season. Richard has thrown 338 innings in his stellar four-year career, ranking third all-time at XU. He also ranks sixth all-time with 198 strikeouts and is just five Ks shy of moving into the top five.
Xavier (23-19) is in Philadelphia for a three-game series at Saint Joseph's (23-20). The Musketeers sit at 10-5 in the A-10, one game ahead of the Hawks and their 9-6 conference record. Richard will take the mound for XU in Friday's contest.
