CINCINNATI - The Xavier University baseball team will take to the road for a weekend series against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia this weekend. XU and SJU are separated by one game in the Atlantic 10 standings, with Xavier holding a 23-19 overall record and 10-5 in the A-10 and St. Joe's sitting at 23-20 and 9-6 in conference play.
All three games will have live audio courtesy of St. Joe's. Friday's game begins at 3 p.m., with a 2 p.m. beginning for Saturday's matchup and a noon start for Sunday's.
Xavier took two of three from Rhode Island in XU's weekend series. The Musketeers won the first two games, 2-0 and 1-0, using a ninth-inning walk-off hit from Stephen Schoettmer in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. XU fell, 6-2, in the 13th inning of the second game on Saturday.
The Musketeers registered consecutive shutouts against Rhode Island, winning 2-0 on Friday and 1-0 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. This is the first time since March 30-31, 2007, a span of over six years, that XU registered consecutive shutouts. Xavier won at Saint Louis, 11-0 and 3-0, in the first two games of that series in `07.
Richard Named Co-Pitcher of the Week
Jon Richard claimed one of the shutouts for Xavier by himself on Friday night. The senior hurler went all nine innings and three-hit the Rams. His efforts earned him Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Last Meeting - Saint Joseph's
A 5-4 walk-off victory provided Xavier with the series win in the final series of the 2012 season. XU won the opening game, 7-3, but fell in the second contest, 5-1.
