April 13, 2009
CINCINNATI - The Xavier Baseball team will be participating in the inaugural Joe Nuxhall Classic April 14-15 hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Marge Schott Stadium. The Musketeers will play host UC at 7 p.m. Tuesday night following the early game between Wright State and Miami (Ohio) which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. In between the two games Tuesday, there will be a ceremony featuring the Nuxhall family.
On Wednesday, the winners of Tuesday's game will face each other to determine the Classic Champion while the losers will play in a consolation game. Xavier will play in the 3 p.m. game and Cincinnati will play in the 7 p.m. game either way.
The Classic is designed to feature college baseball in the area and has been named for Joe Nuxhall as an homage to his commitment to amatuer baseball. The midweek event will showcase local teams in an attempt to bring more awareness as to what is happening in college baseball in the area.
The cost for each day is $5 for adults, $3 for children and $1 apiece for groups of 10 or more. The admission price is good for both games on that day.
