CINCINNATI - The Xavier University baseball team will partake in the annual Joe Nuxhall Classic this week beginning with Cincinnati on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Games will be held at Marge Schott Stadium on Cincinnati's campus.
The Joe Nuxhall Classic features Xavier, Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio) and Wright State in a two-day tournament-style event. The winner of the XU/UC game will face the winner of the MU/WSU contest on Wednesday evening, while the two losing schools will play Wednesday afternoon.
This will be the first meeting between XU and UC this season, with two more games on tap later this season. The Musketeers defeated the Bearcats in all three meetings in 2012. Despite having games scheduled against both Miami (Ohio) and Wright State this season, Xavier has yet to play either team. Two games against the RedHawks and one versus the Raiders were canceled due to inclement weather.
Xavier enters Tuesday's game with a 14-14 record and riding a three-game winning streak after sweeping Dayton last weekend. The Musketeers have been particularly hot since the start of conference play in the Atlantic 10, winning eight of their last 11 games.
Cincinnati is 11-18 on the season and was swept by Louisville last weekend. Miami (Ohio) comes in at 14-13 and Wright State is 12-16.
Tuesday's game against Cincinnati will be streamed live by UC at GoBearcats.com.
