Baseball Hosts A-10 Rival Richmond This Weekend

CINCINNATI -- After defeating in-state foe Ohio 7-5 Wednesday night, the Xavier baseball team is looking to protect its home field against Atlantic 10 foe Richmond this weekend. The Musketeers and Spiders begin a three-game series Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., with Saturday's game slated for 1 p.m., and Sunday's contest set for 12 p.m.
The Musketeers got back into the win column Wednesday night with the aforementioned 7-5 win at Ohio. XU is currently in 10th place in the league with a 17-14 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the A-10.
Redshirt sophomore Tyler Koors is scheduled to take the mound for the Musketeers on Friday. The right hander holds a 3-2 record and a 4.68 ERA in seven starts. Sophomore Seth Willoughby, who earned his seventh save of the season at OU, is currently tied for first in the conference in saves.
Senior first baseman Ben Thomas got back into the swing of things at Ohio Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. The senior left hander leads the team in batting average (.434), hits (46), doubles (9), home runs (8), and RBI (29). Fellow senior Ryan Bellamy is second on the team in batting average at .357, and senior center fielder John McCambridge is third in batting average at .355 with 21 RBI.
Last season the Musketeers went 3-1 against the Spiders in Richmond.
The Spiders (15-12-2, 3-0 A-10) currently sit atop the conference standings and are looking to make a case for a high seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 tournament.
Richmond has won four of its last five games with its last loss coming on Wednesday at home against in-state non-conference rival William and Mary.
Bret Williams is slated to take the mound for the Spiders Friday afternoon. The left hander holds a 4-0 record and a 3.48 ERA in seven starts.
Jacob Mayers leads the Spiders offensively with a .400 batting average.
