Miami Downs Xavier 16-4

The Xavier baseball team dropped another lopsided game today, felling its record to 7-18 on the season. Four Miami pitchers stifled XU for just five hits and four runs. This is the second time in the past week the Musketeers have fallen to the RedHawks (11-9).

Scoreless after an inning, Miami broke the game wide open in the second when they crossed six runs off five hits and one error. Sophomore Zach Schmidt provided a three-run homer in the inning. The RedHawks added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth before XU finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth.

With two outs, the Musketeers walked two batters, banged out a couple of singles and a double by freshman Russ Reyes (Davenport, IA). XU scored four runs in the inning, but it was not nearly enough. Miami still led 9-4 and it posted seven more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, bringing them to a total of 16 runs and 20 hits.

Xavier starting pitcher Kevin Crowley (Wheaton, IL) (0-1) gave up six runs and five hits through three innings of work. He took the loss.

The Musketeers will battle SEC foe Kentucky tomorrow at 3:00 at Hayden Field.
