CINCINNATI - Xavier redshirt senior Vinny Nittoli was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and was a member of the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second-straight week.
Nittoli (3-0) earned the honors after throwing seven innings on Saturday against Toledo and only allowing one unearned run. The Gibsonia, Pa., native posted a career-high nine strikeouts with eight hits and no walks to claim the winning decision in the final game of the weekend series.
The redshirt senior dropped his ERA to 0.38 after his outing on Saturday, which ranks 12th in the NCAA, ranks 28th in both K-to-BB ratio (9.00) and walks/nine innings (.75) and has a team-high 18 strikeouts through four starts. On his days off the mound, he hits for a .268 average at the plate with two home runs on the year.
Nittoli and the Musketeers are in action Tuesday at Hayden Field, hosting Ohio at 3:00 p.m., then travel to Columbus Wednesday to take on Ohio State for a 5:05 p.m., start.
