Xavier Baseball Ready to Take on Cincinnati

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier baseball team will travel a small distance tomorrow to take on a large rival. The Musketeers will meet Cincinnati at UC's Johnny Bench Field in the 85th meeting between the two schools. They have played each other every year since 1959 (as far as current records indicate). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Cincinnati leads the all-time series by a tally of 51-31-2. The last six meetings, however, have been split evenly. When XU and UC squared off last season on March 8, 2000, the home team Bearcats came away with an 8-3 win.

Leading the way for Cincinnati is senior Kevin Youkilis. The third baseman is batting .487 through 11 games this season.

The potent Musketeer attack is led by second baseman Jeff Crandell (Lothian, MD). The senior leads Xavier in several offensive categories including batting average (.500), slugging percentage (.750), on-base percentage .575, runs scored (14), hits (16), doubles (5) and at bats (32). He is currently riding a team-high eight game hitting streak.

Probable pitchers for the game are Joey List (UC)(1-1) and Greg Wiggers (Mantua, OH)(1-1) for Xavier.
