CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball's Daniel Rizzie was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. This marks the first weekly honor of the year for the Orland Park, Ill., native. The release by College Sports Madness comes one day after Vinny Nittoli was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Scott Klever was selected to the five-member honor roll.
The starting catcher for the Musketeers had a successful weekend hitting for a .500 batting average and a 1.200 slugging percentage with five hits and one stolen base. The sophomore closed out the weekend action with a 4-for-6 performance that included four of the Musketeers' 16 runs, four RBIs and a pair of home runs to earn the win over the Dayton Flyers Saturday afternoon.
Rizzie carries a .355/.363/.613 slash line with ties for team-highs in hits (11) and home runs (two) this season. As a freshman last year, Rizzie finished with a .283 batting average, 28 hits and 12 RBIs, earning him a spot on the 2013 A-10 All-Rookie Team.
The Xavier Musketeers (5-3 overall) and Rizzie head to Bloomington, Ind., Wednesday afternoon to take on the Indiana Hoosiers (4-5 overall) in midweek action. First pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m.
