BIG EAST Names Xavier's Nittoli Player Of The Week
March 3, 2014
CINCINNATI - For the third-consecutive week, Xavier baseball has won one of the two weekly awards handed out by the BIG EAST. The conference office has named Vinny Nittoli this week's Player of the Week following his performances in games against Bradley and Dayton last weekend.
Nittoli joins Andre Jernigan, who earned the BIG EAST Player of the Week honor after the opening weekend of the season and Adam Hall, who was tabbed Pitcher of the Week after shutting down No. 12 North Carolina in a 2-1 Xavier victory on Feb. 21.
Nittoli batted .714 over the weekend with a pair of homers. The native of Gibsonia, Pa., drove in six runs and scored three times in helping Xavier average 10.5 runs per game over the weekend. The senior sported a .750 OBP and astounding 1.571 slugging percent.
Scott Klever earned recognition on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Klever was dominant on the mound in leading Xavier past rival Dayton, 16-1. The native of Cincinnati (Mason HS) worked seven innings of one-run ball, surrendering just four hits and a walk while fanning five Flyers.
Xavier (5-3) returns to the diamond on Wednesday when the team travels to Bloomington, Ind., for a 4 p.m., tilt with Indiana.
