Baseball to Kick Off 2008 Season at Coca-Cola Classic

CINCINNATI - The Xavier baseball team is headed to Mobile, Ala. this weekend for the 2008 Coca-Cola Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama Feb. 22-24. The Musketeers will kick off the 2008 season with a 7 p.m. match-up with Kentucky on Friday.
Xavier finished the 2007 season with 29-31 overall record and a 17-10 mark in Atlantic 10 conference play, finishing in fourth place. The Musketeers have 20 returnees from last season and 15 newcomers to the team.
Kentucky opened last season with an amazing 19-0 record and eventually won 34 games over the course of the season. The Wildcats (34-19-1 in 2007) will also be opening their season on Friday against Xavier.
XU's Saturday opponent will be host South Alabama. The Jaguars finished 2007 with 31-26 overall record, including a 23-11 mark at home. USA went 2-2 in last year's Sun Belt conference championship, falling to Louisiana Lafayette in the semifinals.
Fairfield will be Xavier's Sunday foe. The Stags were 18-28 overall and 12-14 in the MAAC in 2007. Fairfield returns its entire starting lineup along with 10 newcomers this season.
