XU Baseball Opens Season With 4-3 Loss at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Xavier baseball team lost its season opener on Saturday at East Tennessee State, 4-3.

Xavier (0-1) made a late rally scoring three runs in the sixth, but fell just short of homestanding ETSU (1-5), which won its first game of the season.

Sophomore Steve Sakosits (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) drove in the first Musketeer run of the season as his RBI single drove in senior Jason Morelli (Wintersville, Ohio/Catholic Central) who was pinch running for Eric Armstrong (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) in the sixth.

Junior Jay Johnson (Crestview Hills, Ky./Dixie Heights) followed with his first run of the season to complete a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Junior Sean Finnegan (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Hillsborough (NJ)) got the loss despite allowing just four runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings pitched while striking out three.
