Forney Named Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team By College Sports Madness
Feb. 10, 2014
CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball's Joe Forney was tabbed Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team by College Sports Madness. This marks the second preseason accolade for the junior after he was also named to the league's first team in a vote by the coaches.
Forney established a regular role in Xavier's lineup early last season before solidifying himself at first base. He hit .313 with 22 RBIs and 31 runs scored in 51 games played. The native of Bloomington, Ind., sported a .378 OBP.
Forney was one of the catalysts of Xavier's 2013 squad that went 32-26 overall and 16-8 in the Atlantic 10. He'll help usher in a new era at Xavier, as this is the Musketeers' inaugural season in the BIG EAST conference.
Xavier kicks off its 2014 season this weekend with a three-game series at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. Flour Field is the home of the Greenville Drive, a single-A affiliate for the Boston Red Sox, and features a 30-foot high wall modeled after the "Green Monster" at Fenway. XU will play Toledo at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
