CINCINNATI - The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced the results of the A-10 preseason coaches' poll for baseball and Xavier was picked to finish seventh. XU, which finished the 2012 season with a mark of 28-28 and 13-11 in conference play, ended last season in seventh place.

The Musketeers return all eight starting position players and 13 pitchers from last season's staff. Mark Elwell posted a team-high .329 batting average with 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Vinny Nittoli and A-10 All-Rookie Team selection Alex Westrick will guide the Musketeers' pitching staff.

Under the guidance of head coach Scott Googins, Xavier has posted a 108-75 record in the A-10. XU has earned bids to the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament in five of the past six seasons, winning the crown in 2009.

Saint Louis received 10 first place votes and was picked to win the league. Rhode Island (2) and VCU (3) picked up the remaining first place votes and were projected to finish second and third, respectively. Charlotte, which hosts the A-10 Championship this season, was tabbed fourth. Finishing just a few points ahead of XU's 146 points in the poll were Dayton (149) and Richmond (147). Saint Joseph's, Fordham and Massachusetts close out the top ten in the poll. St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Temple, Butler and George Washington were picked to finish in the bottom five.
