ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Xavier baseball team couldn't overcome an early deficit as the Musketeers fell to George Washington 5-3 in the final road conference game of the season. With the loss, Xavier fell to 26-27 overall and 11-10 in the Atlantic 10.

The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on four hits. GW added a run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Michael Moore reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a bases-loaded walk by Selby Chidemo in the top of the fifth to cut the GW lead to 4-1.

Mitch Elliott knocked a one-out single and moved to second on a hit by Brian Bruening. Vinny Nittoli's bases-loaded pinch hit walk brought Elliott home and cut into the GW lead. Mark Elwell scored Bruening on a RBI fielder's choice to cut the GW lead to 4-3.

However, the GW pitching staff held on while the Colonials added a run in the seventh to seal the win.

Tyler Koors went three innings and was pegged with the loss while Scott Klever added four innings of relief and Seth Willoughby added an inning in relief action.

Xavier hosts conference foe Saint Joseph's Thursday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
