CINCINNATI -- A two hour long rain delay didn't hamper Xavier starter Jon Richard as he pitched seven innings of one-run baseball in Xavier's 10-2 win over Atlantic 10 foe George Washington Friday afternoon at Hayden Field. With the victory the Musketeers improved to 26-23 overall and 11-8 in the A-10. Richard evened his record at 4-4 with the win.

Xavier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the home half of the third inning when freshman right fielder Brian Bruening blasted a RBI double that scored senior shortstop Phil Bauer. Senior catcher Ryan Bellamy brought home Bruening and sophomore designated hitter Seth Willoughby with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

GW scored a run on an error in the top of the fifth but the Musketeers extended the lead to 5-1 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Xavier busted the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh that extended the XU lead to 10-1. Senior center fielder John McCambridge drove in left fielder Mark Elwell with a single. Senior first baseman Ben Thomas walked in the next at bat which set up a two-run home run by Bauer.

Bruening led the way for the Musketeers offensively as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk and one RBI. Bellamy and Bauer each finished the game with a trio of RBIs.

On the mound redshirt-juniors Josh Murphy and Shane Liska each pitched one inning of solid relief. Richard struck out four Colonial batters and gave up just four hits in the win.

Xavier and George Washington will continue the series Saturday at 12 p.m.
