CINCINNATI -- Xavier jumped out early and never looked back as the Musketeers rolled to a 9-4 win over Ohio in the final non-conference game of the season Tuesday at Hayden Field. With the win, the Musketeers evened their record at 25-25 on the season.
Scott Klever gave up just two runs and two hits in five innings of action to earn the win. Klever was unhittable through the first three and two-thirds innings as he and the Musketeer defense retired 11 straight Bobcats. Adam Hall pitched three innings of one-hit relief while Daniel Przeniczny added one inning of strong relief.
Xavier opened the game with five straight base hits to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Mark Elwell, Brian Bruening, Derek Hasenbeck, Tres Eberhardt, and Mitch Elliot each reached and scored to open the game. Vinny Nittoli and Jake Forrester each added an RBI in the top of the first.
Nittoli scored in the bottom of the third after leading off with a double thanks to a RBI double by shortstop Michael Moore. Moore crossed the plate when Elwell reached on an OU error to give XU a 7-0 lead.
Hasenbeck scored a run on a Nittoli single in the fourth and Bruening scored in the bottom of the sixth to give XU a 9-2 lead.
