PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Right handed starter Vinny Nittoli's seven innings of shutout pitching combined with strong offense helped Xavier earn a 5-1 win against Atlantic 10 rival La Salle Friday afternoon. With the victory, XU improved to 23-24 overall and 9-7 in the conference while La Salle fell to 17-27 on the season including a 4-7 mark in the A-10.

XU sophomore third baseman Tres Eberhardt went 3-for-5 on the day with a run and a RBI including a lead-off double to start the second inning. Eberhardt and Mitch Elliot both scored in the second to give XU a 2-0 lead early.

The Musketeers extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the sixth when Seth Dawes led off the inning with a single and came home on a RBI double by Bruening. Patrick Paligraf reached on a fielding error by the Explorers' shortstop and Bruening scored to give XU some insurance late in the game.
