CINCINNATI - After dropping the first of two on Saturday, 11-4, the Xavier baseball held on for a 12-11 win over Dayton to take the Atlantic 10 series from the Flyers, 2-1. Senior Bobby Freking went 6-for-10 with two runs scored, three RBI and a home run on the day for the Musketeers while junior Ben Thomas was a perfect 4-for-4 in the nightcap.
Thomas was 5-for-8 on the day for XU scoring three runs and recording four RBI while redshirt senior Neil Lindgren went 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.
Dayton (19-25, 8-10 A-10) was able to pick up the 11-4 win in the first game of the day after falling to the Musketeers, 21-5, in yesterday's contest to even the series. UD's Cameron Hobson (3-3) the win on the mound while XU's Josh Deeg (3-3) was charged with the loss. Markus Kuykendoll also saw action in the contest for the Musketeers as well.
Xavier (17-29, 10-8 A-10) held on for the 12-11 nightcap victory in order to take the conference series from Dayton. Redshirt freshman Alex Vice (1-3) picked up his first collegiate win after tossing 2.1 innings of middle relief. Redshirt sophomore Josh Murphy picked up his first career save as well as he threw the final inning for XU.
Josh Jeffery led the Flyers with a 5-for-7 day scoring four runs for Dayton.
The Musketeers will not play any midweek contests in the coming week as the team focuses on final exams. XU will return to action next weekend as they welcome the league-leading Charlotte 49ers to Hayden Field for a three-game A-10 series. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
