INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Xavier knocked out two home runs in a three-run sixth inning to earn a 4-3 win over Butler Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Xavier improved to 17-21 on the season. Starter Jacob Bodner improved to 1-1 on the season as he earned the win in five innings.
Bodner gave up five hits and just one run while striking out three Bulldogs. Alex Vice posted his second save of the season in two-thirds of an inning.
Xavier scored the first run of the game in the top of the second as Tres Eberhardt led off the inning with a single and crossed the plate on a ground out by Bo Slemmons.
Butler threatened in the bottom of the ninth but Vice was up to the task as he got the last two Bulldog batters to ground-out and seal the Musketeers' second straight win.
The Musketeers return to action Friday as they travel to face Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Friday.
