EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Daniel Rod smacked a three-run home run to left field in the top half of the seventh inning to lift Xavier past Evansville, 4-3, and give the Musketeers their third sweep in their last four weekend series. The home run was the first of the season for Rod, who earned a start in center field for today's game.

Xavier (18-15) fell behind by two runs after giving up a run to Evansville (14-23) in both the first and third innings. Stephen Schoettmer extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the fifth inning to score Joe Forney and pull Xavier within a run, 2-1.

Following a walk by Daniel Rizzie, Schoettmer singled again to put a pair of base runners on the bags for Rod. Rod took an 0-1 pitch and sent it over the left field wall propelling Xavier to a 4-2 advantage.

The Musketeers gave one of those runs back to the Aces in the bottom half of the inning, but XU starter Tyler Koors was able to close out the frame without further damage.

Koors pitched effectively through seven innings, allowing only two earned runs on ten hits and a pair of walks. Koors struck out four batters in the win and improved to 4-3 on the season.

Zach Johnson worked one scoreless inning from the bullpen before Alex Vice entered in the ninth. Vice closed out the game to earn his fifth save on the season, including all three games in Evansville.

Rod and Patrick Paligraf each collected three hits and Schoettmer finished the game with two hits. Forney and Jake Forrester were the other Musketeers who collected hits in the game.

The win moved Xavier to three games over .500 for the first time this season. XU also won its fourth-straight game, its longest winning streak of the year.

Evansville's Josh Biggs (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up three earned runs on seven hits. Biggs was removed after six and a third innings on the mound with Rizzie and Schoettmer on base at the time. Cole Ison surrendered the home run to Rod, but was not charged with the loss since the two base runners were Biggs' responsibility.

Xavier has a pair of midweek games slated for the coming week. Wright State will visit Xavier's Hayden Field for a 3 p.m. tilt on Tuesday. Then, XU will travel to Akron for a Wednesday afternoon game with the Zips. First pitch for Wednesday's game is set for 3 p.m.
