CINCINNATI -- It was a walk-off win for Xavier as the Musketeers topped Atlantic 10 rival Saint Louis 3-2 in 12 innings Friday at Hayden Field. With the win, Xavier improved to 15-19 overall and 5-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Xavier trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 12th but Mitch Elliott's lead-off double got the Musketeer rally started. Sophomore second baseman Michael Moore reached and moved to second on a SLU error that also moved Elliott to third with one out.

Center fielder Mark Elwell tied the game with a ground-out RBI that brought home Elliott and shortstop Patrick Paligraf reached with his fourth walk of the game.

Brian Bruening stepped to the plate with the game tied at 2-2 and runners on the corners with one out. The sophomore lefty hit a ground ball to short that bounced to the Billiken shortstop, who misplayed the ball that allowed Moore to score the game-winning run.

Freshman Alex Westrick earned the win in two innings of action. The XU left hander gave up two hits and one earned run. Starter Vinny Nittoli pitched seven innings of shutout action and struck out six Billikens. Junior reliever Seth Willoughby pitched 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and gave up one unearned run.

SLU starter Alex Alemann matched Nittoli's solid outing with eight innings of three-hit, one-run action. Reliever Travis Parker was pegged with the loss in 3.2 innings of play.



Sophomore Selby Chidemo gave Xavier a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the six with a two-out RBI single to center field that scored Paligraf.

SLU tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the ninth when Mike Vigliarolo hit a two-out single that set up a RBI single that scored a SLU pinch-runner.

Friday's win was Xavier's third extra-innings game in its last six outings. Xavier has won three of four extra-inning games this season.

Game two of the three game series is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. from Hayden Field.
