Jon Richard moved into a tie for fourth-place all-time in career-innings pitched after throwing six innings on Friday night.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Xavier starting pitcher Jon Richard tossed six scoreless innings to move into a tie for the fourth most innings pitched at XU and the Musketeers held on for a 9-7 victory at Evansville. The win moved Xavier one game over .500 for the first time this season, sitting at 16-15 overall. Evansville dropped to 14-21.
Richard entered the game having thrown 315 innings in his career and pitched six more innings to tie Mike Creevy's (2004-07) 321 innings. The two pitchers now stand fourth in XU's career annals. Richard struck out five batters and walked none. The Aces mustered just five hits off of the senior left-hander.
The Musketeers combined for nine runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. A four-run fourth was capped with a two-RBI single from Stephen Schoettmer, who increased his hitting streak to 13 games. XU tacked on two more runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Vinny Nittoli drove in two of his three RBIs with a single in the sixth inning, increasing Xavier's lead to 9-0.
Evansville then put six runs on the board in the seventh inning, capitalizing on four walks from Xavier pitching. Kevin Kaczmarski highlighted the Aces' big inning with a grand slam. UE used two singles and two wild pitches in the eighth to score its seventh run of the game.
Nittoli paced Xavier offensively with three RBIs on two hits. Derek Hasenbeck scored three times and Schoettmer collected two hits and an RBI.
UE's Kyle Freeland gave up six runs on seven hits to fall to 3-5 this season. Kaczmarski led the Aces offensively with four RBIs.
Xavier and Evansville will square off in the second game of the series at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon. The game will be held at Braun Stadium on UE's campus.
