Daniel Rod scored the game-winning run after singling and stealing second in the bottom of the ninth against Miami (Ohio) in the Joe Nuxhall Classic.

CINCINNATI - Joe Forney lined an RBI-single to center field scoring Daniel Rod and propelling Xavier (15-15) to a 7-6 walk-off win against Miami (Ohio) (14-15) in the Joe Nuxhall Classic. Forney finished the game with a pair of hits, an RBI and run scored.
With one out in the ninth, Rod stepped to the plate and delivered a single to give the Musketeers a base runner. Rod put pressure on the RedHawks by stealing second base to move into scoring position and set up Forney's game-winning heroics.
Xavier got the scoring started with two outs in the top of the first, Derek Hasenbeck and Patrick Jones delivered consecutive doubles to give XU a 1-0 lead. The RBI by Jones was his first of the season.
Tres Eberhard led off the second inning with a walk and moved to third on a double by Jake Forrester. Stephen Schoettmer delivered a two-RBI single to right center, but was thrown out on the play trying stretch the hit into a double.
Miami used five hits, an error and wild pitch to break onto the scoreboard with a five run fifth inning and leveled the score at five-apiece.
Xavier regained the lead with text-book work at the plate. After Selby Chidemo led off the sixth with a single, Elwell put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner. Patrick Paligraf delivered a looping single down the right field line scoring Chidemo and giving the Musketeers the lead, 6-5.
After a lead-off double by the RedHawks to start the eighth, Jacob Bodner made a diving catch on a sac bunt attempt to keep the runner from advancing. However, a pair of Musketeer errors on the next at-bat allowed the run to score and tied the game at six.
Vinny Nittoli started on the mound for Xavier, allowing five runs on ten hits. Only four of the runs were charged to Nittoli were earned runs. The junior pitcher struck out two Bearcats and did not issue a walk. Sean Campell worked two scoreless innings, issuing one walk with a strikeout. Jacob Bodner (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season after pitching the final two innings. Bodner allowed one run on one hit.
The RedHawks used six pitchers in the game and Charlie Suich (0-1) took the loss. Suich threw two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run on one hit.
The Musketeers will take to the road for a weekend series against the Evansville Purple Aces. Friday's game has a scheduled start time of 6 p.m. ET, while Saturday's game will begin at 1 p.m. CT and Sunday's contest will start at noon (CT).
