CINCINNATI - Freshman catcher Daniel Rizzie and senior third baseman Stephen Schoettmer combined for five RBIs to help Xavier complete a series sweep of Dayton with a 12-4 win at Hayden Field on Sunday afternoon. Xavier improved to 14-14 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton dropped to 7-19-1 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Back-to-back walks with two outs in the bottom of the first gave the Musketeers a pair of base runners. A single by sophomore Joe Forney loaded the bases for freshman Jake Forrester, who delivered a two-RBI single through the left side.

A double by Schoettmer and a single from junior Selby Chidemo put two runners on the bags for senior Mark Elwell. Elwell delivered an RBI single through the left side to give the Musketeers a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Xavier tacked on two more runs in the third. Rizzie scored Forney on a sac fly and Forester scored on a grounder from Schoettmer to extend XU's lead to 5-0.

UD finally got on the board in the top half of the fifth. The Flyers' Robby Sunderman connected on a two-run homer that stayed just inside the left field foul pole. Xavier got one of the two runs back with a double from Schoettmer and the Musketeers led, 6-2, after five innings.

XU opened the floodgates on UD in the sixth. Ten Musketeers batted in the frame and Xavier scored six runs on seven hits to blow the game wide open, 12-2.

The Flyers connected for five hits and got two of the runs back in the top of the seventh, but the damage had been done and the Musketeers held on for a 12-4 to complete their second series sweep of the season. XU previously swept St. Bonaventure at Hayden Field.

Senior Tyler Koors went seven full innings on the mound, allowing four runs on 14 hits and a walk. Koors struck out three batters, while improving to 3-3 on the season. Sophomores Sean Campbell and Jacob Bodner pitched the final two innings. Neither pitcher surrendered a hit.

Charlie Dant suffered the loss for Dayton, falling to 1-3 on the year. Sunderman provided most of Dayton's offense with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Xavier will square off with Cincinnati in the annual Joe Nuxhall Classic at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Marge Schott Stadium. The Musketeers will then face either Miami or Wright State on Wednesday. The exact time and opponent will depend on Tuesday's outcomes.
