SAUGET, Ill. - Derek Hasenbeck drove in five runs to lead Xavier to a 14-4 victory against Saint Louis at GCS Ballpark on Friday evening. Xavier (10-12, 4-1 A-10) registered 17 hits and held Saint Louis (17-10, 4-1 A-10) to just nine hits while handing the Billikens their first conference loss of the season.

Hasenbeck was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, registering a single in the first, a three-run home run in the third and a two-run double in fourth. The sophomore also scored a pair of runs for XU in the win. Mark Elwell, Joe Forney, Patrick Jones, Daniel Rizzie, Stephen Schoettmer and Selby Chidemo added two hits apiece for the Musketeers, who have now scored double-digit runs in four of the last five games.

Xavier opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the third and added five more in the top of the fourth to blow the game open with a 9-0 lead. XU tacked on insurance runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings, giving starting pitcher Alex Westrick all the support he needed.

Westrick improved his record to 3-3 and lowered his ERA to 2.29 on the season. SLU managed two runs on seven hits and a walk against Westrick, who was charged with only one earned run in the contest.

Saint Louis managed just two runs in the fifth off Westrick and two more in the eighth off of reliever Sean Campbell. Campbell worked the final two innings to secure the victory for Xavier.

Nick Bates took the loss for Saint Louis, falling to a 3-2 record. Bates lasted just three innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits.

The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. ET at the Billikens Sports Center in Saint Louis. Due to inclement weather earlier in the week, games one and two were moved to GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., home of the minor league team Gateway Grizzlies.
