BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After giving up three early runs, the Xavier pitching staff and defense held Indiana scoreless for eight innings while the XU offense broke out for an 11-3 win Tuesday. Scott Klever was credited with the win three innings of action to improve to 1-2 while the Musketeers moved to 9-15 on the year.

Nathan Mutsch, Alex Vice, and Seth Willoughby each pitched an inning of relief and allowed just two IU hits between them.

Offensively, Daniel Rod led the way as he went 2-for-5 at the plate with a run and two RBI.

The Hoosiers scored three runs in the bottom of the first but Xavier tied the game in the top of the third on a two-RBI single by Selby Chidemo that plated Tres Eberhardt and Patrick Paligraf. Mark Elwell scored on an IU throwing error to tie the game at 3-3.

Rod's RBI single plated Elwell and kicked off a three-run sixth inning by the Musketeers that extended the XU lead to 8-3. Xavier added three more runs in the top of the eighth to seal the victory.

XU opens the Atlantic 10 season with a three-game series against Charlotte beginning Friday at 3 p.m. at Hayden Field. Saturday's 1 p.m. contest will be video streamed live on GoXavier.com.
