Xavier Falls in Series Finale to Rhode Island

CINCINNATI - In Atlantic 10 baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Hayden Field, Xavier found itself on the short end of the scoreboard after visiting Rhode Island used a five-run fourth inning to get past the Musketeers 7-1. The Rams outhit the blue and white by an 11-4 margin and three XU errors were trumped by URI's two in the game. With the loss, Xavier falls to 7-16 on the season and 1-2 in A-10 play, while Rhode Island moves to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Robbie Kelley and Matt Waskerwitz each finished the afternoon 1-for-4 with a single with Kelley earning the only RBI for XU, while freshman Neil Lindgren ended 1-for-3 with a single and two walks to become the team leader with 18 walks so far this season. Junior Dan Hayden was 1-for-2 with a single and Jordan Wolf crossed the plate for the only Xavier run in the contest.
Junior Dan Graham suffered the loss for the Musketeers as he worked four innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out two. Classmate Bill Konecny came in from the bullpen to throw the next four innings and struck out four, while only allowing one run and three hits.
Xavier will have Monday off before returning to the diamond on Tuesday. The Musketeers will welcome former XU head coach Dan Simonds and the Miami RedHawks to Hayden Field for a 3:00 pm set. Miami enters the game with a record of 8-10 on the season but lost two of three games at Toledo this past weekend.
