MACOMB, Ill. -- The Xavier baseball team jumped out to an early lead on the road at Western Illinois Sunday afternoon but the Leathernecks rallied to had XU a 6-4 loss. With the defeat, XU fell to 8-15 on the season.

Junior Tyler Koors fell to 1-3 on the season as he was tagged with the loss in 3.1 innings of play. Offensively, Mark Elwell and Derek Hasenbeck each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Musketeers.

Xavier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third when Elwell scored on a throwing error and Hasenbeck followed with a RBI single that brought home Daniel Rod. Hasenbeck crossed the plate himself when Vinny Nittoli grounded out to third base.

WIU added two in the bottom of the third and three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. Xavier added one more run in the top of the eighth but it wasn't enough to earn the win.

The Musketeers travel to face Indiana Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
