CINCINNATI - With runners at first and second with one out, senior Adam Lipski drilled a single up the middle to give Xavier the go-ahead run to down visiting Dayton, 6-5, and stay undefeated in Atlantic 10 action. XU plated six runs on 13 hits in the game, while holding the Flyers to only five runs on nine hits. The win moves the Musketeers to 6-18 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play, while UD falls to 7-12 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.

Sophomore Steve Brown got the final inning going with a single to center. Senior Jordan Wolf then bunted Brown to second to give way to sophomore Sean Farrell. Farrell would also single to the hole at short to put runners at first and second with only one out before Lipski roped a single to center to allow Brown to cross the plate and break the tie.

Dayton got on the board first in the game as a double and single led off the second inning before a sacrifice fly allowed Max Navalinski to score the opening run.

Xavier answered with two in the bottom of the third and a leadoff double by Matt Waskerwitz was capitalized on after Adam Pasono bunted him to third. Brown would drive a fly ball deep enough in left to allow Waskerwitz to score and tie the game at 1-1. With two outs, senior Jordan Wolf would blast his fourth homerun of the season over the left field fence to give XU the lead, 2-1.

The Flyers would answer the Xavier rally with two runs in the top of the fifth before the Musketeers knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom half.

In the bottom of the sixth, XU would regain the lead by scoring two more runs after Waskerwitz singled up the middle to score Robbie Kelley from second and Pasono singled through the left side to score Drew Schmidt to give the Blue and White a 5-3 advantage after six complete.

Dayton would charge back in the top of the seventh to score the tying two runs before Lipski's heroics in the ninth left Xavier on the smiling side of the scoreboard.

Five Musketeers finished with two hits on the afternoon. Pasono, Brown, Farrell, Waskerwitz and Neil Lindgren each had two hits. Brown led the way with two RBIs and Schmidt drew two walks on the day.

Mark Janszen picked up his second win of the season and improved to 2-1 in 2007. Janszen went 3.0 innings and allowed only one hit, while tallying a strikeout. Charlie Leesman got the start for the Blue and White and went 7.0 strong innings before giving way to Janszen. Leesman allowed five runs, three earned, on eight hits over his seven innings and struck out three.

This is the first time the Musketeers have started the Atlantic 10 schedule 2-0 since the 2002 season. During that first series, XU defeated Rhode Island the first two games and completed the sweep of the Rams to end the weekend.

The Musketeers will get back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they host the final game of the series against Dayton. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm at Hayden field with XU's Michael Lucas (0-4, 6.43 ERA) getting the nod on the hill. Leesman will face UD's Cale Ort (1-3, 5.85 ERA) in the last game of the A-10 series.
