MACOMB, Ill. -- Xavier used a six-run fifth inning to earn an 11-5 victory at Western Illinois Friday afternoon. With the win, XU improved to 8-13 on the season while WIU fell to 5-12. Sophomore Vinny Nittoli picked up his second win of the season in six innings of action.

Xavier trailed 3-0 but rallied to take the lead in top of the fifth with six runs. Joey Noble's sacrifice fly got the rally started when he plated Selby Chidemo. Mitch Elliott followed with a RBI single of his own that brought home Tres Eberhardt, and came home himself on a single by Daniel Rod to keep the rally going and give XU a 6-3 lead.

Elliott represented the Musketeers' lone run in the top of the seventh when he crossed the plate on a Derek Hasenbeck single.

Xavier extended the lead to 10-4 in the top of the eighth when Elliott hit a two- RBI single to center and Noble scored on a walk.

Xavier will look for its second straight win tomorrow as the Musketeers continue the series against the Leathernecks Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
