CINCINNATI - The Xavier baseball team split its doubleheader with Oakland Saturday at Hayden Field, dropping the first contest, 2-1 (10), and taking the nightcap, 3-2. Freshman Jon Richard tossed a complete game to tally his team-best third win of the season.

For the day, senior Drew Schmidt was the only Musketeer to record multiple hits after going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the second game of the day. Schmidt's RBI came in the eighth inning as his double brought home junior John McCambridge to tie the contest at two runs apiece.

Oakland (3-8) out-hit the Musketeers 7-2 in the first game of the day, an extra inning affair that ended with the Grizzlies on top after scoring a run in each of the last two innings. In the nightcap, XU nearly matched OU's bats as Oakland tallied seven hits to Xavier's six.

Xavier (4-14) turned a double play in both games while Oakland turned the trick twice in the second outing.

Junior Tommy Shirley put in seven scoreless innings as XU's first-game starter. Junior Brian Muransky (0-4) took the loss for the Musketeers after giving up an earned run on two hits in three innings of work.
