PORT CHAROLOTTE, Fla. -- The Xavier baseball team picked up its second straight win over Michigan with a 5-3 victory Sunday. With the win, XU improved to 3-7 overall while Michigan fell to 6-6 on the season.

Tyler Koors improved to 1-1 on the season as he earned the win for XU in eight solid innings of action. Seth Willoughby picked up his second straight and third overall save of the season as he held the Wolverines scoreless for one inning.

Shortstop Patrick Paligraf, first baseman Brian Bruening, and right fielder Mitch Elliott each went 2-for-4 with Bruening leading the team with two RBI.

The Musketeers got on the boar first in the top of the third when Daniel Rod came home on a Michigan passed ball.

The Wolverines scored once in the fourth and twice in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead but the XU offense was up to the task.

Mark Elwell led off the top of the seventh with a double to center field and came home on a RBI single by Paligraf. In the top of the eighth the Musketeers added a run when Elliott knocked an RBI triple to left center to bring home Joey Noble.

XU pulled ahead for good in the top of the ninth with two runs coming off of a two-RBI single by Bruening.

Xavier will face Sacred Heart Monday at 1 p.m.
