Baseball Falls at College of Charleston, 9-2

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Xavier baseball dropped a 9-2 decision at College of Charleston at Patriots Stadium Tuesday evening. The Musketeers scored two runs on four hits in the contest and with the loss, XU falls to 3-2 on the season while College of Charleston improves to 5-2.
C of C's Joey Bergman had an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run double in the second to give Charleston a 3-0 lead. The Cougars scored one run in each of the next two innings to go ahead by five, 5-0.
Senior Steve Brown and junior Richard Zac had RBI singles for the Musketeers in the sixth inning, cutting into Charleston's lead to pull within four, 6-2.
In the bottom half of the frame, Charleston's Ryan Daniels had an RBI double, while Mike Hentz and Brandon Sizemore added run-producing doubles in the seventh for the final margin, 9-2.
Sophomore Brian Muransky (0-1) took the loss for the Musketeers. Muransky gave up five runs on nine hits and struck out one while walking three over 3.1 innings of work. Dave Peterson (1-0) got the win for the Cougars. He tossed five scoreless innings, striking out one batter.
Xavier and College of Charleston will play one more tomorrow, Wednesday, at 3 p.m. before the Musketeers head down to Daytona Beach, Fla., to participate in Bethune-Cookman's Spring Break tournament.
